Third Biennial Iranian studies conference

The quality of the presentations was incredibly high and ... I thought the numerous opportunities for mingling and networking were excellent and allowed me to leave the conference with many new friends.
— Feedback, spring 2017

Hosted by the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge, and Pembroke College, Cambridge, on 11-12 April 2017.

We were thrilled to welcome 111 early career scholars from 68 institutions and 22 countries to the University of Cambridge in 2017 for our third conference, with a programme of thirty-two panels, the Early Career Scholars’ Q&A, our first opening reception, and a further twenty-nine academic invitees from across the field.

The call for papers attracted 416 proposals from 44 countries over a three-month period. Offers remained steady at 40% following double-blind peer review by a panel of academics.

Of these applications:

  • 198 were PhD students

  • 115 were Postdocs

  • 54 held MAs or MPhils

  • 49 were Master’s or MPhil students

Genders were also fairly represented, with a total of 213 female applicants and 203 male, which constitutes 51% and 49% respectively.
