PRINCIPAL SPONSORS

enable us to convert Symposia Iranica from concept to reality

Our three principal sponsors – the British Institute of Persian Studies, Soudavar Memorial Foundation, and Iran Heritage Foundation – have been our most dependable partners to date. They awarded us our first grants in 2012, making the First Biennial Conference  – and thus all subsequent Symposia Iranica – a possibility.

As the organisers, we are especially grateful to the British Institute of Persian Studies and the Soudavar Memorial Foundation for funding Symposia Iranica on a rolling basis since 2015.

British Institute of Persian Studies

Celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in 2011, the British Institute of Persian Studies is the UK’s foremost learned society dedicated to the study and research of Iran’s heritage and culture, including its languages, literature, arts, peoples and archaeology. Sponsored by the British Academy, the Institute’s fundamental purpose is to promote and support excellence in research on Iran and the Persianate world. Since its foundation in 1961, the Institute has played an important role in sustaining the academic vitality and increasing the visibility of the field, promoting greater public understanding and knowledge of Iran and campaigning for greater provision for its study in institutions of higher learning.

The British Institute of Persian Studies was a principal sponsor of Symposia Iranica’s First and Second Biennial Conferences, and is also a principal sponsor of our Third in 2017.

Soudavar Memorial Foundation

The Soudavar Memorial Foundation’s mission is to preserve and promote the rich and diverse cultural and artistic heritage of the Greater Iranian world in all its diverse aspects, with a particular emphasis on continuities, areas of neglect, and on interaction with other cultures. Founded by a family with a long history of philanthropy, the Soudavar Memorial Foundation was formally established in 2001 and follows on the lifelong commitment to the arts, culture and heritage of Iran by Fereidoun Soudavar (1908-1997) and his wife, Massoumeh Amir-Alai, whose legacies include the Chair of Persian studies at the University of Oxford and the lectureship post in Persian Studies at the University of Cambridge (posthumously created), both dedicated to the memory of their sons.

The Soudavar Memorial Foundation was a principal sponsor of Symposia Iranica’s First and Second Biennial Conferences, and is also a principal sponsor of our Third in 2017.

Iran Heritage Foundation

Iran Heritage Foundation is a non-political UK registered charity with the mission to promote and preserve the history, languages and cultures of Iran and the Persianate world. Co-founded in 1995 by five philanthropists, the objectives of the Foundation are achieved by organising and supporting activities of cultural or scholarly merit; programmes include sponsoring teaching posts and fellowships at universities and museums, giving grants for academic research and cultural activities, and organising regular events and conferences, both in the United Kingdom and overseas.

Iran Heritage Foundation was a principal sponsor of Symposia Iranica’s First and Second Conferences, and is also a principal sponsor of our Third in 2017.
